Modern Caftan vs Traditional Caftan

The caftanThis beautiful dress that has conquered the hearts of many women, never ceases to inspire. At each event dedicated to it, we have the pleasure of discovering new combinations (fabrics, colors, embroideries...).

The new faces of the modern caftan

In a synthetic way, the caftan has long been a long, loose, long-sleeved garment, composed of a fabric and a belt.

With time and the influence of other horizons, this outfit has not been immune to "mutations". Indeed, today there is a great desire to make the caftan in phase with the times, but also to diversify it so that each one of us can find her happiness.

Of course the basic elements, such as the ornaments and the belt remain present. Modifications generally appear at the level of the cut, the overall length but also that of the sleeves, thus allowing to bring a touch of modernity but also a practical side to this dress often seen as cumbersome.

Caftan Moderne yes, but what is the limit?

We all remember the caftans worn by our mothers and grandmothers, which looked much too big for them. The shoulders were drooping, the sleeves floating ... Well I'm not here to criticize their style, but in their time the caftan was worn like that. What is no longer the case today.

Now we all wish to have a caftan much more curved than that of our elders ... why make custom otherwise? 😉

So far there are no problems. However, the fact of moving away from the very definition of the traditional caftan bothers me more. I think there are certain points that should not be touched at the risk of losing the charm of the Moroccan caftan.

As for the sleeves, whether long or short, no problem, the bustier on the other hand ... For children of course it is cute but for us ladies, I'm not too fan.

You can opt for a Takchita, composed of a strapless caftan, but it is absolutely necessary that the upper piece has sleeves, whether transparent or with lace.

This version of the caftan really shocked me... the "miniskirt" style...!!???

You may find me old school, but even though the fabric, the ornaments, the belt are present, something is missing. I feel that with this much shorter fabric, the charm of the caftan has disappeared. Those who wish to be comfortable do not despair because an excellent solution is offered to them: opt for a slit.

The Caftan of the Moroccan bride...

To illustrate what I am saying, I have a small question to ask those who have had the opportunity to attend a wedding in Morocco, I say in Morocco and not a Moroccan wedding abroad. Have you ever seen a bride dressed in a modern Caftan to the extreme? When I say modern to the extreme, I mean short both in length and in the sleeves.

Well the answer is no... Because as you know the bride represents the refinement, the elegance to the Moroccan. What can she wear then better than a traditional Caftan revisited to the right measure ...

Obviously tastes and colors are not debatable, but I think we all agree that the caftan in its basic structure is much more elegant.

We must keep in mind that culturally and historically, the Moroccan caftan symbolizes both modesty, feminism and elegance...
